FIVE RESOURCES TO USE WHEN SEARCHING FOR CAMPSITES

If you’re just getting started with camping, or if you’re new to an area like I am to Colorado, it can be intimidating trying to find good spots. Here are the top five resources I use when searching for campsites:

  1. Recreation.gov - this is where I book the majority of my sites. You can use this app to book sites at most every reservable public campground. Love having all of my reservations in one place!

  2. The Dyrt - this app gives me just that… the DIRT on campsites. Descriptions and photos from Recreation.gov typically leave a lot to be desired. I always plug campgrounds into the Dyrt to collect intel on views, road conditions, proximity to water, etc.

  3. Hipcamp - if you’re not familiar, Hipcamp is like Airbnb for campsites. If I’m having trouble finding a public campsite or if I’m looking for a unique experience, I always check Hipcamp.

  4. iOverlander - this app is a great source for informal campsites, dispersed spots, water refill stations, etc. We don’t do a lot of boondocking but hope to do more in the future so I love checking out our options on this app.

  5. FreeRoam - this app is fairly new to me but I’m loving it. You can find lots of intel on both established campgrounds and dispersed camping areas. Love the focus on education (the includes guides on different subjects) and the inclusion of weather data. So helpful for planning!

What are your favorite resources for finding campsites? I’m always open to trying out new options!
